Christy Moore Sings My Song!
Christy Moore’s new album, LISTEN, was released the day before yesterday, 18th April, and it features one song written by myself, GORTATAGORT. It’s a song I wrote about my mother’s home place, a small farm in the hills near Bantry, County Cork.
Christy got right into the song. He describes it as “the emotional centre of the album”.
Although he is singing about our family farm, he is really singing about his own family farm near the Hill of Allen in County Kildare. He is using my song as a channel for his own links to the land and to his mother. Do you get it?
What an honour to have Christy sing my song. He is the greatest Irish Folk Singer alive today.
Gortatagort originally appeared on my own album, MY DARK ROSALEEN & THE ISLAND OF DREAMS, which came out only last year, April 2008.
This is the third song of mine that Christy has recorded. The other two were JOHNNY DON’T GO TO BALLINCOLLIG and MAGIC NIGHTS IN THE LOBBY BAR.
John.
